SAFEWebLK has finalized the first draft of the Code of Practice for Online Safety.
The Code, on which SAFEWebLK has collaborated with a number of regional and global internet companies, will delve into four areas: disinformation, hate speech, cyber bullying, and online harassment.
The first draft of the Code will now be put forward to various stakeholders via a number of island-wide consultations, to be held throughout November. The comments and feedback from these consultations will be used as the basis for a second draft.
SafeWebLK, inaugurated in mid-March this year at a multi-stakeholder event in Colombo, is a public interest initiative facilitated by Factum, an independent think tank based in Sri Lanka which focuses on international relations.
Collaboration with global and Asian tech companies has been and is being facilitated through their regional industry alliance, Asian Internet Coalition (AIC).
