SAFEWebLK: Code of Practice consultations held in Jaffna

Jaffna, Sri Lanka, 24 November 2022

Having held its consultations for the Western Province in Colombo, Factum convened the next round of discussions for SAFEWebLK’s draft Code of Practice for Online Safety in the Northern Province in Jaffna.

The event saw the participation of a number of members from civil society and other sectors. They underscored the need for inclusivity across ethnic and religious groups, as well as different regions, when tackling issues like disinformation and hate speech.

The consultations concluded on a successful note, with the consensus that participation at the grassroots level is imperative for discussions of national issues.

SAFEWebLK, inaugurated in mid-March this year at a multi-stakeholder event in Colombo, is a public interest initiative facilitated by Factum, an independent think tank based in Sri Lanka which focuses on international relations.

Collaboration with global and Asian tech companies has been and is being facilitated through their regional industry alliance, the Asia Internet Coalition (AIC).
