Having held its consultations for the Northern Province in Jaffna, Factum convened the next round of discussions for SAFEWebLK’s draft Code of Practice for Online Safety in the Kurunegala District in Sri Lanka’s North-Western Province.
Among the key highlights at the Kurunegala consultation was the importance of the online safety of women and children. Participants noted that not enough attention has been paid to this issue. The session wrapped up with the consensus that the Code of Practice will have to include these aspects into the final draft.
SAFEWebLK, inaugurated in mid-March this year at a multi-stakeholder event in Colombo, is a public interest initiative facilitated by Factum, an independent think tank based in Sri Lanka which focuses on international relations.
Collaboration with global and Asian tech companies has been and is being facilitated through their regional industry alliance, the Asia Internet Coalition (AIC).
