The inaugural international screening of “Democracy in Debt: Sri Lanka Beyond the Headlines”, directed by Beena Sarwar (Sapan News Network and Southasia Peace Action Network) with a grant from the Pulitzer Center and institutional facilitation by Fact, took place on July 25, 2024 at the Colombo City Centre.
The screening was attended by ambassadors, diplomatic staff, multilateral institutions, the business community, youth, and academia, among others.
The screening was followed by a panel discussion and a Q and A. Among those who fielded questions were Dr Dayan Jayatilleka, political commentator and former diplomat, Dr Rajiva Wijesinha, former Minister and Emeritus Professor, and Swarnamalya Ganesh, Indian actress and activist.
Beena Sarwar is an internationally renowned journalist, artist, and filmmaker focusing on human rights, media, and peace. Born in Pakistan, she is now based in Boston.
