Gothamie holds a distinguished academic and professional career and has emerged as an expert in lichens. Since 2018 she has been the Senior Curator of Lichens and Slime Moulds at the Natural History Museum in the UK. She holds membership in several societies, including the British Lichen Society, the American Bryological and Lichenological Society, and the Sri Lanka Association of the Advancement of Science. She is a Grant Reviewer for the National Geographic Society. Her interests include lichen taxonomy and the use of natural history collections in science.
